“Are Radio Frequency Meters Safe?”

While installing DS&O’s new meters throughout our service territory, our linemen have been asked by a handful of members about the safety of the new meters.

To best address this question, we refer those members to the Federal Communications Commission’s website and the National Cancer Institute’s website.  By clicking on those links, you can get answers to your questions and have access to an assortment of studies and references for your perusal. In addition, the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) recently considered the issue as part of a more general investigation into possibly mandating utilities to offer an opt-out option for customers and members not wanting a meter that communicates via radio frequencies.
